Rene Magritte Rene Magritte is often remembered to as one of Belgium's greatest artists and a surrealist legend. His style of art changed a few times before he established his own original works. His work 'The Red Model', which shows bare feet that fade into boots, caught my attention. Magritte's art is original and is often contradictory, making the viewer think a little harder about their surroundings. I chose his work 'The Red Model' because it's an original work, and it looks like it took some talent. It's painted very realistically, but the subject matter however, is not realistic at all. I think this work might be implying that people are so busy and into their lives and jobs that kicking off your shoes and relaxing can seem like a job in itself. I think this piece is like his others, its odd and not something you'd see every day, and it's contradictory. Magritte's originality adds a lot to his works. Rene's work has not always been the surrealist work he is famous for. He had a chance to display his early works at a one man show, but critics did not like his works. He then moved to Paris, where surrealist artist inspired his surrealist artwork. His failure in his early days inspired his later works which he became famous for. Changing styles is not always necessarily a bad thing, as Magritte proves. I picked Magritte for a few reasons. His work is creative and original, which is sometimes hard to find, even in artists. He also has talent. He has skills as a painter and isn't one of those artists that splatters paint on a canvas and calls it art. His work relates to the other artist/author I chose because they both have original works that get your thoughts going a bit. His work is inspiring because of his creativity and thought.
